DentalGoodNews｜On the evening of September 27, 2026, the closing ceremony of the 48th WorldSkills Competition was held at the Shanghai Expo Culture Center. Guo Xiating, a 21-year-old competitor from Hubei Three Gorges Vocational and Technical University, won the gold medal in the "Dental Prosthetics Technology" event. According to the Hubei Provincial People's Government, this is the first gold medal won by a Chinese competitor in this newly added event.

According to previous reports by DGN, as the world's highest-level vocational skills competition, the WorldSkills Competition is held every two years; this edition featured a total of 64 competition events, among which "Dental Prosthetics Technology" (Dental Prosthetics) was one of the 7 newly added events, with one competitor each from China, South Korea, Brazil, and India participating.

This event involves digital scanning, CAD design, and precision milling to fabricate dental prostheses, crowns, veneers, and other restorations, helping people with tooth defects and missing teeth restore chewing, pronunciation functions, and facial aesthetics, and also reflecting the new trend of integration between health services and advanced manufacturing.

From September 23 to 26, during four consecutive days of high-intensity competition, Guo Xiating completed all competition modules including wax pattern fabrication, casting, ceramic layering, and fine finishing. Coach Zeng Xiaoli introduced that the fit of crown margins, interproximal clearance, and the reproduction of morphology and color all require technicians' experience and precise judgment, placing extremely high demands on digital design and manual precision operations.

According to reports, Guo Xiating had previously won the gold medal in this event at the 3rd National Vocational Skills Competition in 2025, and thereby qualified for the Chinese training team for the 48th WorldSkills Competition. A relevant official from the Yichang Human Resources and Social Security Bureau introduced that Guo Xiating has now joined Hubei Three Gorges Vocational and Technical University as an urgently needed talent, serving as a practical training instructor for the dental specialty.
