DentalGoodNews|On May 18, 2026, the CU Anschutz School of Dental Medicine (hereinafter referred to as "Anschutz School of Dental Medicine") announced the launch of a new "3D Print Hub". The Anschutz School of Dental Medicine stated that this hub is the first dedicated space in the U.S. integrating material R&D, multi-material Additive Manufacturing (AM), clinical trials, and student education. Its core technology is multi-material 3D inkjet printing, capable of fabricating a complete monolithic denture, including the base and teeth, within hours. The technology was developed by a laboratory led by Jeffrey Stansbury, Associate Dean for Research at the Anschutz School of Dental Medicine. By precisely controlling the stiffness and elasticity of materials through polymer systems, it offers new insights for the design of removable dentures. According to official disclosures, Stansbury collaborated with dental manufacturing company Myerson to develop a customized inkjet printer. In 2025, through Myerson's partnership with Henry Schein, Inc., the first generation of commercial printed dentures was brought to market. It is important to note that while the relevant products have received FDA clearance, rigorous randomized controlled clinical data are still lacking. Based on this, the Anschutz School of Dental Medicine stated that the newly launched 3D Print Hub will initiate the first blinded clinical trial, comparing patient satisfaction and functional performance between traditional compression-molded dentures and inkjet-printed dentures, laying the foundation for evaluating subsequent advanced multi-material designs. In terms of technological R&D, the Devatha Nair laboratory is developing antimicrobial and antifungal polymers that can be directly incorporated into or coated onto dentures. Additionally, the Anschutz School of Dental Medicine has integrated the 3D Print Hub into its digital dentistry curriculum, aiming to reduce the cost and turnaround time of denture fabrication. According to official disclosures, the project has also received support from the Anschutz Accelerator for Innovation (AAI) fund and is collaborating with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder to develop multi-material printing control software. According to previous reports by DENTALGOODNEWS (Leading Dental Industry Media, DGN), the 2025 annual report of Yingguan Dental showed that the application of 3D Printing technology effectively reduced its operating costs. Stratasys TrueDent® has become the first monolithic 3D-printed denture solution in Europe to receive CE certification. During the 2026 South China Dental Show, domestic companies also showcased multiple 3D-printed temporary crown products. These developments, to some extent, indicate the trend of 3D Printing technology's proliferation in the dental industry. The University of Colorado is a major public research university system in the U.S., founded in 1876 and headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. The entire university system has over 68,000 students and more than 7,600 full-time faculty and staff, making it one of the largest higher education institutions in Colorado, with significant influence in scientific research, education, innovation, and community service. The CU Anschutz School of Dental Medicine is a professional dental school within the University of Colorado system and is the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region of the U.S.
