SprintRay's Flexible Denture Resin Apex Flex Receives FDA Class II Certification, Claims In-Office Same-Day Delivery in Approximately 2 HoursIssuing time:2026-04-16 11:17
DentalGoodNews | In April 2026, the American dental 3D printing company SprintRay (SprintRay Inc., hereinafter referred to as "SprintRay") announced the in-office application for fabricating flexible partial denture bases using its Apex Flex material. The disclosed clinical cases show that the process, from intraoral scanning to denture delivery, takes approximately 2 hours for same-day completion. According to the company's disclosure, Apex Flex is a biocompatible material that has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Class II (510(k)) clearance. It is specifically designed for the Additive Manufacturing (AM) / 3D Printing of flexible partial denture bases. The material is compatible with the SprintRay Pro 2 printer and the NanoCure post-curing system, and is available in two gingival shades: standard pink and light pink. It can be used within the same workflow as Apex Teeth resin teeth to fabricate a complete denture. In this workflow, Apex Flex can be combined with Apex Teeth resin teeth, enabling the fabrication of both the denture base and the artificial teeth within a single digital process.
Regarding material properties, the company disclosed key mechanical indicators including: flexural strength ≥26.5 MPa, elongation at break ≥50%, flexural modulus ≥700 MPa, and work of fracture ≥5,000 J/m². These properties are cited to support the strength, elasticity, and crack resistance of the denture under masticatory loads. Furthermore, the company presented two clinical cases to demonstrate the workflow. In Case 1, a patient missing four maxillary incisors (both lateral and central incisors) underwent data acquisition using a 3Shape TRIOS 5 intraoral scanner. Following design in exocad software, the Apex Flex denture base and Apex Teeth resin teeth were printed using a SprintRay Pro 2 printer, with the entire process taking about 2 hours for same-day delivery. In Case 2, a patient who had lost a mandibular partial denture underwent fabrication via the same digital workflow, with denture delivery completed at a follow-up appointment one week later. The company stated that compared to traditional methods relying on injection molding and outsourcing to laboratories, the digital workflow based on Apex Flex allows for scanning, design, printing, and delivery to be completed entirely in-office. This is said to help shorten production cycles and enhance process control. The system supports denture design completion via either exocad or SprintRay Cloud Design. Regarding indications, the company states that the material is suitable for tooth-supported partial dentures. For cases involving distal extension edentulous areas, patients with parafunctional habits, or situations with insufficient inter-arch space, caution is advised. Proper design of clasp morphology and support areas is necessary to avoid excessive deformation that could compromise stability.
