OraLiva Launches AI-Powered Oral Cancer Detection ProductIssuing time:2026-04-14 13:08
DentalGoodNews|OraLiva, Inc. recently announced in a company press release on its official website that its "clinically validated" AI-driven oral cancer and oral lesion detection product has entered the commercialization phase. The press release stated that the company has planned to collaborate with Delta Dental in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina regions to include this detection in insurance coverage. According to the company's disclosure, the detection is based on the largest prospective study on oral potentially malignant disorders to date, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is reported that this clinical study involved 999 patients and analyzed over 13 million cells. The company claims that the model developed and validated from this study can be used for early identification and monitoring of oral cancer. According to official introduction, this detection model can be used to assess the risk of oral lesions and identify lesions requiring referral, follow-up, or monitoring at the stage of oral epithelial dysplasia (precancerous lesions). The company cites data from the American Cancer Society, showing that only about one-quarter of cases are detected at an early stage of cancer, when the five-year survival rate is approximately 88%; while most cases are detected at an advanced stage, with the survival rate dropping to 37%. OraLiva stated that its oral lesion detection combines microfluidic cytology sampling, digital imaging, and artificial intelligence technology: samples are collected via brush in the clinic and sent to the laboratory, where the AI model performs quantitative analysis of cell morphology and related features, generating a stratified report and actionable recommendations to assist clinical decision-making, with the final report reviewed by a pathologist. The company indicated that this project can be reimbursed using CDT code D7288 (brush biopsy—transepithelial sample collection) in the cooperating states, and the company expects to expand to more states within the year.
