Planet DDS Launches Dental AI Agent, Targeting DSO Appointment ManagementIssuing time:2026-03-02 11:37
DentalGoodNews | On February 26, 2026, US dental practice management software provider Planet DDS launched DentalOS™ AI Agents (hereinafter referred to as "DentalOS AI Agents"), introducing the first two AI automation agents embedded into front desk workflows. Early access applications are now open for users of its Denticon and Cloud 9 platforms. The first two released agents target appointment management scenarios. The Confirmation Agent automatically initiates outbound calls to patients within a configurable time window to confirm appointments or facilitate immediate rescheduling. It writes the results of these actions back into Denticon and Cloud 9, maintaining a full audit trail throughout the process. According to Planet DDS, this agent can increase appointment confirmation rates by 20% to 50% from historical baselines, reduce no-show rates by 15% to 30%, and save front desk teams 60% to 75% of the manual labor hours spent on confirmations. The Scheduling Agent proactively contacts patients on recall lists, waitlists, and those with unscheduled treatment to directly book appointments within the management system. When a cancellation occurs, the agent triggers timely outbound calls to fill the vacant slot and logs each interaction back into the system. Both agents run directly within the Denticon and Cloud 9 platforms, accessing patient records and schedule data in real-time, and adhering to each practice's specific scheduling rules and escalation paths. When clinical judgment or human intervention is required, the agents automatically escalate the task to staff. Planet DDS disclosed that the average no-show rate for dental practices is 15%, costing each practice over $150,000 (approximately 1.09 million RMB) annually. Among no-show patients, 36% reported missing their appointment simply because they forgot. According to the company's announcement, new agent roles covering clinical coordination, patient communication, and revenue cycle management will be rolled out in 2026 and beyond, expanding into a comprehensive "AI workforce" system. Planet DDS, headquartered in Irvine, California, USA, operates platforms including Denticon (for multi-location dental group management), Cloud 9 (for orthodontic practice management), and Apteryx Cloud Imaging (for cloud-based imaging services). According to its official website, its platforms serve 14,500 practices and 175,000 users. The company states it supports more Dental Service Organizations (DSOs) with over 100 practice locations than any other cloud-based dental practice management system.
